Today's basic things to remember about the BAS Agent registration and the BAS Agent world
|
- Anybody providing BAS Services before 1 March 2010 should notify the Board by 31 August 2010
- PI insurance is required by ICB now but will be required by the TPB from July 2011
- Any business (individual or entity) that provides BAS Services to clients must be registered with the Board
- Each business entity must have Individual/s associated with it who are also registered with the Board
- Therefore every bookkeeper who provides BAS Services through their entity must have two registrations - one for them and one for the entity
- Businesses may still lodge their own BAS
- Employees of the business they do the BAS for are not required to register
Things you may need to do now
- To keep your registration after 1 March 2013 you will need to have obtained your Cert IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping) or (Accounting) by then
- To keep your registration after 1 March 2013 you must have 1000 hours relevant experience over the previous 3 years if you an ICB member or 1400 hours if you aren't a member of a Recognised BAS Agent Association member.
- Keep watch as sometime over the next year the Board will issue its position on what GST/BAS course you must have completed to keep your registration after 1 March 2012.
Things you may not know
- if a registered BAS Agent is lodging forms electronically through ECI or their BAS Portal then they obtain a 4 week extension to each BAS lodgement deadline
- You will probably need to have your GST/BAS accreditation upgraded, probably meaning further study or assessment before 1 March 2013
ICB continues to both monitor the environment and lobby on your behalf as the world of the bookkeeper and BAS Agent continues to develop. |
